What is Reiki and Reiki Therapy?
Reiki is a form of hands-on, natural healing that uses universal life force energy. The term comes from the Japanese words “rei,” which translates into universal, and “ki,” which means vital life force energy that flows through all living things. This is a gentle energy that is limitless. It is not tied to any specific religion or nationality.
Reiki was developed by a Japanese man named Dr. MikaoUsui in the early 1900s.Its popularity
has spread all over the world, and is now used in
many medical facilities, such as hospitals and hospices.
Reiki allows you to balance your own healing energies
by helping you become energetically balanced physically,
emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
The Reiki practitioner is the conduit between you and the source of the universal life force energy. The energy flows through the practitioner’s energy field and through his or her hands to you. The energy does not come from the practitioner; it comes through the practitioner from the universal source. You may experience the energy as sensations such as heat, tingling, or pulsing where the practitioner places her hands on your body, or you may feel these sensations move through your body to other locations. This is the energy flowing into you. Some people may not perceive any change at all. Most people feel very relaxed and peaceful. Many clients even fall asleep while receiving Reiki treatment.
The benefits of Reiki treatment
A Reiki treatment may:
-
bring a peaceful, deep relaxation
-
dissolve energy blockages and tension
-
balances the energies of the body
-
detoxify the body
-
adapts to the needs of the reciever
-
support the well-being of the client who is receiving traditional medical treatments that are debilitating, such as chemotherapy and radiation, surgery, etc.
-
supply universal life-force energy to the body
-
stimulate the body’s immune system
-
help to relieve pain
-
stimulate tissue and bone healing after injury or surgery
-
increase the vibrational frequency of the client on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels
During a Reiki treatment, you usually lie on a massage table, fully clothed. Typical treatments are 30-minutes in length. The Reiki practitioner gently places her hands on your body in specific energy locations during the treatment. The length of time that she leaves her hands in each position is determined by the flow of energy through her hands to you at each location. There is no pressure, massage or manipulation.
Reiki is a complement to traditional medical or therapeutic treatments
Reiki complements all other types of medical and therapeutic treatments. However, it is not a substitute for consultation with a physician, a practitioner, natural therapeutics or a psychotherapist. Reiki can increase the efficacy of all these other types of healing.
If you already are in good health, regularly applied Reiki treatments enhance your ability to respond to unhealthy elements in your environment and help you to handle stress. Reiki is great as a preventative medicine, promoting the harmonious distribution of energy. Reiki can be done everyday (if you are experiencing a large amount of stress and or pain) or once a month (for preventative measures).
Reiki can help lessen the symptoms and side
effects of traditional treatments
Reiki is not specific to any particular types of
diseases or conditions. Because it works on the
entire self – mind, body and emotions – and
because it is universal life force energy, it has
been successful in all types of physical, emotional,
mental and spiritual healing, depending on the
needs of the client.
